STUDENT DIVISION
Students Enrolled in the School's Intensive Program during the 2023/2024 Season will be provided a level recommendation under the new structure.
Students either new to NJBS or not part of the Intensive Program last season must apply and be assessed.
Ages listed below are suggested age brackets. Placement will vary based on age and ability.
Level 1 (Ages 8-10)
3 compulsory ballet classes
Level 2 (Ages 9-11)
3 compulsory ballet classes, 1 jazz class per week.
Level 3 (Ages 10-12)
3 compulsory ballet classes, 1 beg. pointe, 1 jazz/contemporary class per week.
Level 4 (Ages 11-13)
4 compulsory ballet/pointe classes, 1 jazz/contemporary, 1 Pilates class per week.
Level 5 (Ages 12-14)
4 compulsory ballet classes, 2 pointe, 2 variations, 1 jazz/contemporary, 1 Pilates class per week.
Level 6 (Ages 13-15)
5 compulsory ballet classes, 3 pointe, 2 variations, 1 jazz/contemporary, 1 Pilates class per week.
ADV. (Ages 16-18) (By invitation only)
6 compulsory ballet/pointe classes, 2 variations, 1 partnering, 1 stage craft, 1 jazz/contemporary, 1 Pilates class per week.
STUDENT DIVISION AUDITIONS
Dancers will be assessed upon first applying for the Student Division. They will continue to be evaluated throughout the year by the teaching staff and finally assessed at a scheduled audition in June. They will be placed in the appropriate level, based on their age and ability.
All placement decisions are solely at the discretion of the artistic staff.
