Ballet Master Class
Sarah Lane was born in Daly City, California. At the age of 4, she began her dance training in Memphis, Tennessee under the direction of Pat Gillespie at Memphis Classical Ballet. She continued instruction with Timothy Draper and Jamey Leverett at the Draper Center for Dance Education in Rochester, NY.
Lane was the Silver Medalist, the highest medal in the Junior Division, at the Jackson International Ballet Competition (2002). During the competition, she traveled to Washington, D.C. to perform at the Kennedy Center as a Presidential Scholar in the Arts. That same year, Lane also won the Bronze Medal at the Youth America Grand Prix Competition.
Lane joined American Ballet Theatre in September 2002, was appointed a Soloist in August 2007 and Principal in 2017. She has travelled around the world with the company performing a vast range of repertoire and has created a number of roles. She has guested as a Principal artist and teacher with a multitude of other ballet companies. Sarah was a recipient of the Princess Grace Award in 2007 and the Leonore Annenberg Fellowship in the Arts in 2008. She was the dancing double for Natalie Portman in Fox Searchlight Pictures' feature film, Black Swan. She often teaches ballet and is a certified Gyrokinesis® instructor.
She has written essays for the Wall Street Journal Online and Dance Magazine. She has been featured by numerous magazines and newspapers, including Glamour, Elle, Pulp, Interview, Timeout, Dance and Pointe magazines. She is an alumni of the Harvard Business Course. She has modeled for numerous companies.
